GENERAL SANTOS CITY — What was supposed to be a comfortable hotel stay turned into a night in jail for a foreign tourist after he allegedly went on a destructive rampage inside a hotel room late in the evening of February 17, 2026.
Authorities identified the suspect as Lars Ammentorp Pedersen, a 50-year-old national of Denmark, who was arrested after reportedly damaging several pieces of property inside Room 403 of East Asia Royal Hotel in General Santos City.
According to reports from hotel management and police, the incident occurred around 11:13 p.m. when housekeeping personnel alerted security after hearing commotion and noticing that the guest was throwing and destroying items inside the room. Security personnel immediately responded and reportedly caught the suspect in the act of smashing hotel property. Among the items damaged were a smart television, a refrigerator, a sofa bed, two night tables, and two drawer cabinets, resulting in significant losses for the establishment.
Following the incident, hotel security turned the suspect over to authorities, and he was brought to General Santos City Police Station 3 for documentation and investigation. Police said the foreign national is facing a complaint for malicious mischief after the hotel management formally filed charges over the destruction of property.
Investigators are still looking into the circumstances that led to the outburst, as initial reports indicate that the suspect’s actions appeared unprovoked. Authorities emphasized that while the city remains open and welcoming to tourists, visitors are still expected to follow local laws and respect public order and private property.
If proven in court, the case could subject the suspect to penalties under Philippine law, with the extent of liability depending on the value of the damages incurred by the hotel. Meanwhile, police continue coordinating with concerned offices regarding the legal process involving the foreign national.
