MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur — A 19-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after being hacked by his live-in partner past noon on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in Barangay Bacungan, Magsaysay.
Police identified the victim as alias “Tiyo,” 19, while the suspect was alias “Shela,” 34. Both are residents of the same barangay.
In an interview with Police Corporal Arvin Cubillo, investigator of the Magsaysay Municipal Police Station, said initial findings revealed that the suspect hacked the victim after allegedly enduring repeated physical abuse from him.
The victim sustained a deep wound to his right arm and was immediately brought to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities noted that the injury caused significant blood loss and required urgent medical attention.
The suspect is now under police custody at the Magsaysay Municipal Police Station, while authorities await the victim’s decision on whether to formally file charges.
Members of the Citizen Armed Auxiliary (CAA) and soldiers in the area were among the first responders who helped transport the injured man to the hospital.
Police reminded the public to report cases of domestic violence early to prevent further escalation and ensure timely intervention.
