NABALAWAG, Special Geographic Area–BARMM — A barangay kagawad was wounded while his wife, a public school teacher, and her aunt were killed after unidentified gunmen riddled their home with bullets in a brazen pre-dawn attack in Barangay Kudaranggan, Nabalawag town, early Tuesday, January 28, 2026.

Police identified the injured official as Sadam Abdulah Tayuan, 23, the 1st Barangay Kagawad. He sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
The fatalities were identified as Nurhani Sangki Tayuan, a teacher and the kagawad’s wife, and her aunt, known only by the alias “Pikong.” Relatives said both women died on the spot after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the head and other parts of the body.
According to initial accounts from the victims’ family, the assailants opened fire on the Tayuan residence at around 1:00 a.m., shattering the stillness of the community and sending neighbors scrambling for safety. The attackers fled immediately after the shooting.
Authorities said they are still determining the motive behind the attack and have launched a hot pursuit operation to track down the suspects. Investigators are also examining whether the assault was politically motivated or linked to other local disputes.
The brutal killing has sparked outrage and grief among residents, particularly in the education sector, where Nurhani Tayuan was described as a dedicated teacher. Relatives and community members are now calling for swift justice, urging law enforcement to identify and arrest those responsible.
“This was a cowardly attack inside their own home,” a family member said, as they appealed to authorities to ensure accountability and prevent similar violence in the area.
Police have urged anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward as the investigation continues.
