CARAGA, Davao Oriental — A full-scale search and rescue (SAR) operation is now underway after three fishermen were reported missing in the coastal waters of Caraga, Davao Oriental since January 4, 2026.

The missing fishermen were identified as Jeepee Suarez, 40; Junifer Gumubao, 43; and Nonoy Capalit, 35, who failed to return home after heading out for a fishing expedition aboard a Fishing Motor Banca (FBCA) named “Botika Abby,” described as yellow with red outriggers (katig).
According to initial reports, the trio left for fishing activities in the waters off Caraga but have not been seen or heard from since, prompting alarm among their families and the local community.
In response, the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Davao Oriental immediately issued a Notice to Mariners, urging all vessels, watercraft operators, and fishermen passing through the area to remain vigilant and help look for the missing fishermen.
CGS Davao Oriental, together with its sub-stations, has also coordinated closely with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and other concerned agencies to intensify maritime search and rescue operations across their respective areas of responsibility.
Authorities emphasized that every lead, sighting, or piece of information could be crucial in locating the missing fishermen, as the search continues amid challenging sea conditions.
“We appeal to the entire maritime community for cooperation and assistance. Any information, no matter how small, may help in bringing these men home safely,” CGS Davao Oriental said in a statement.
