SOCORRO, Surigao del Norte — A drinking session between two elderly brothers turned deadly in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, 2025, after one fatally stabbed the other inside a residence in Purok 1, Barangay Honrado, authorities reported.
The victim was identified as Nonerio Tesado Angcog, also known as “Oyong Sr.”, 67, a widower and farmer. He was declared dead on arrival at the Socorro District Hospital after sustaining multiple stab wounds to the shoulders and abdomen.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Deding,” 66, married and also a farmer, and the victim’s younger brother. The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the barangay captain shortly after the incident, turning over the bladed weapon used in the attack—a 27-inch “lukay-lukay.”
According to the Socorro Municipal Police Station (MPS), the incident occurred at around 12:35 a.m. Initial investigation revealed that the brothers had been drinking together with others inside the suspect’s house. After the drinking session, a heated argument reportedly erupted when the victim allegedly threatened to kill the suspect while wielding a piece of wood and attempted to attack him, hitting his left arm.
Police said the suspect then went upstairs, retrieved the bladed weapon, and repeatedly stabbed the victim, hitting both shoulders, the abdomen, and other parts of the body, resulting in fatal injuries.
Responding officers, led by PMSg Mark Domenic L. Bato, investigator, and PSSg Bert Michael T. Dacera, patroller, under the supervision of PCapt. Franklin P. Parejo, Acting Chief of Police, immediately proceeded to the scene after receiving a report from Barangay Captain Hon. Dillo G. Cordita. The victim was found lying in a pool of blood and was rushed by the LGU’s MDRRMO responders to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect was informed of his constitutional rights under the Miranda Doctrine and the Anti-Torture Act. Police recovered a wooden stick and a bloodstained blue jersey from the crime scene.
The suspect and seized evidence are now in the custody of the Socorro MPS, while a case of Homicide has been filed against him as the investigation continues.
