COTABATO CITY — A young girl from Central Pilot Elementary School narrowly escaped a suspected abduction attempt today, Tuesday, December 2, after a motorcycle-riding man allegedly tried to force her to ride with him while she was walking home to Manday.
According to Barangay Risary Heights 13 (RH-13) officials, the child was already in the Purok Orchids area when the suspect stopped at a small store and attempted to buy her food—reportedly to calm her down as she was crying. Sensing a chance to flee, the girl immediately ran away and sought assistance from nearby residents. The suspect, realizing the situation, sped off on his motorcycle.
Barangay personnel quickly secured the child and brought her to the barangay hall for safety. Her father, who had been anxiously looking for her, arrived shortly thereafter.
Barangay Chairman Jhulkarnain Sinarimbo confirmed the incident, noting that although the child was visibly shaken, she is safe and back with her family. He added that CCTV footage from possible routes is now being reviewed to help identify the suspect and track his movements.
Authorities are calling on anyone who may have seen the incident or the suspect to report any useful information to the barangay or local police.
Officials also reminded parents and guardians to remain vigilant and ensure that children are accompanied or monitored during travel to and from school, especially amid rising safety concerns.
