ZAMBOANGA CITY — A former barangay secretary of Ayala was shot dead Saturday night in a brazen attack inside his own home in Zone 1, Barangay Ayala.

The victim, identified as Felipe “Berta” Bacabac Jr., was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to various parts of his body.

Initial police reports indicate that the suspect — or suspects — arrived aboard a Honda Beat motorcycle. The assailant was reportedly wearing a black jacket with a hood, black pants, Nike shoes, and a black helmet during the attack. Investigators are also looking into information suggesting that the shooting may have involved a riding-in-tandem duo.

Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the killing. A deeper investigation is underway as police teams continue hot pursuit operations in an effort to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

Relatives confirmed via phone call that Bacabac did not survive the attack. His sudden death has shocked the Ayala community, where he previously served as barangay secretary.

In an official statement, the Barangay Council of Ayala announced his passing and extended condolences to his family: “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Bacabac family. Thank you for your dedicated service as a public servant to the residents of Barangay Ayala. You will be greatly missed.”

Police urge anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to come forward as the probe continues.
