GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A 22-year-old college student sought police assistance after she was allegedly sexually harassed by a tricycle driver during a daytime commute in the city, raising renewed concerns over passenger safety in public transport.

The victim, identified only by the alias “Princess,” told authorities that the incident occurred after she boarded a tricycle near the Bulaong Terminal on her way to a mall terminal in General Santos City. According to her account, the driver began making inappropriate remarks while the vehicle was in motion, including asking where she wanted to be courted.

Princess further alleged that the driver escalated his behavior by asking for a kiss and making disturbing remarks about giving her a child so she would not forget him. The situation reportedly worsened when, as she was about to get off the tricycle, the suspect allegedly held her face without her consent while she was momentarily distracted and looking at her cellphone.

Out of fear for her safety, the victim said she chose not to resist or confront the driver during the ride to avoid provoking violence. However, immediately after disembarking, she proceeded to the police to report the incident.

Authorities confirmed that the victim was able to record part of her conversation with the driver, which may serve as crucial evidence in the case. Police have since launched a manhunt to identify and locate the suspect, who could face charges related to sexual harassment and acts of lasciviousness.

The incident has sparked calls for stricter monitoring of public utility drivers and stronger enforcement of laws protecting women and commuters, particularly students who rely on public transport daily.

Police urged victims of similar incidents to report immediately and assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously to prevent repeat offenses and hold perpetrators accountable.
