Bayang, Lanao del Sur — In a powerful display of unity and defiance against terrorism, the municipality of Binidayan formally declared itself free from the influence of the Daulah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG) and the Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army–National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) during a peace rally held on December 1, 2025—just two weeks after the successful military operation that neutralized DI-MG subleader Abu Jihad.

The declaration, presented through a jointly crafted resolution by the Sangguniang Bayan, underscored the community’s united rejection of extremist ideologies. The event also marked the launch of the Municipal Task Force–Ending Local Armed Conflict (MTF-ELAC), a local peace mechanism designed to strengthen coordination among government forces, prevent extremist resurgence, and safeguard peace gains.

Led by the 64th Infantry “Knights” Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B. Gaviola, INF (GSC) PA, and supported by Brigadier General Yasser R. Bara, Commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade, the event highlighted the synchronized efforts of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Local Government Unit of Binidayan.

The peace rally featured a motorcade, a unity walk, and the symbolic burning of ISIS and CPP-NPA-NDF flags—public demonstrations of the people’s collective resolve to resist terrorism and armed struggle. For years, the DI-MG and NPA have been responsible for sowing fear, inflicting casualties, and disrupting lives in Lanao del Sur and neighboring areas. The strong turnout from residents, youth groups, and local officials reflected a community determined to break away from the cycles of violence.

Municipal Mayor Sodais D. Dimaporo, PCPT Vincent D. Despuez of the Binidayan Municipal Police Station, and other key local leaders joined the rally, affirming the municipality’s shared commitment to peace, unity, and development.

In his message, BGen. Bara praised the people of Binidayan for their solidarity and courage: “The declaration of Binidayan as DI-MG and CPP-NPA-NDF-Free is a significant step toward lasting peace and security, and this was made possible through our collective resolve and unwavering commitment to protect our people. Your courage and unity are the true foundation of lasting peace.”

With the formation of MTF-ELAC, the LGU, AFP, and PNP vowed to sustain peacebuilding programs, strengthen collaboration, and advance development initiatives to ensure that Binidayan remains resilient against radicalization.

The united stand of the people of Binidayan marks a major stride toward a safer, more peaceful Lanao del Sur—anchored on community strength, vigilance, and an unwavering hope for a conflict-free future.
