DATU UNSAY, MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR — In a renewed show of commitment to peace and security, local authorities turned over seven high-powered loose firearms—including heavy weapons—to the Philippine Army on November 13, 2025.

Hon. Soy S. Kali, Barangay Chairman of Brgy. Iginagampong, formally presented the cache of weapons to CPT Michael Allan R. Eugenio (INF) PA, Commanding Officer of Bravo (Badgers) Company, 90th Infantry Battalion, 6th Infantry Division, at the Bravo Company Headquarters in Hill 150, Brgy. Meta.
Among the surrendered firearms were an 81mm mortar, two Cal. 50 rifles, an M203 grenade launcher, a Carbine rifle, two magazines, two 40mm high-explosive rounds, a Cal. 45 pistol, and a Cal. 38 revolver—all considered major threats if left in the hands of unauthorized individuals.
Local officials emphasized that the turnover is a clear demonstration of the community’s willingness to remove illegal firearms, curb violence, and strengthen efforts toward lasting peace in the municipality.
The activity also highlighted the importance of the government’s Balik-Baril Program, which encourages civilians to surrender loose firearms under the Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) initiative. Individuals who cooperate are eligible for scholarship or livelihood assistance from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), providing a pathway toward reintegration and socio-economic upliftment.
Authorities reiterated that the continuous support of residents is vital in sustaining peace and order in Datu Unsay and the rest of Maguindanao del Sur, ensuring a safer future for communities long affected by armed conflict.
