Trento, Agusan del Sur — A viral video posted by a certain Ricardo Bondoc on Facebook, which has garnered over 2.9 million views as of October 27, 2025, has ignited widespread outrage after showing a truck driver accusing personnel from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Trento Extension Office of extortion.
In the video, Bondoc furiously expressed his frustration toward the LTO office, claiming that he was forced to pay ₱1,000 for an alleged traffic violation he insists he did not commit. Filled with anger and expletives, Bondoc declared that he would rather have spent the money to feed his children than hand it to what he described as a “corrupt office.”
The post quickly went viral, triggering online debates and calls for accountability within the LTO. In response, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao has ordered a formal investigation into the incident and issued a show cause order (SCO) against the Law Enforcement Team Leader of the LTO Trento Extension Office.
Under the order, the implicated personnel is required to submit a written explanation within five days upon receipt of the directive to address the allegations of soliciting “grease money” during a roadside operation in Trento.
According to the initial complaint, the driver was allegedly asked to pay ₱1,000 for supposed violations — a clear breach of the 2025 Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service, which strictly prohibits extortion or any form of bribery by government employees.
Lacanilao warned that failure to respond within the prescribed period would be treated as a waiver of the officer’s right to be heard, and that the case would proceed based solely on available evidence.
Meanwhile, the LTO central office assured the public that it does not tolerate corruption within its ranks and vowed to impose appropriate sanctions should the allegations be proven true.
The viral video continues to circulate online, fueling discussions on transparency, abuse of authority, and public trust in law enforcement operations on Philippine roads.
