TACURONG CITY, Sultan Kudarat — Former Maguindanao del Sur Board Member Taharuddin “Frank” Mlok narrowly escaped death after being ambushed by unidentified gunmen at noon on Monday, November 10, 2025.
According to initial police reports, Mlok was driving his Toyota Fortuner with plate number NDB 4964 when armed assailants suddenly appeared and opened fire while he was traversing a major road in Tacurong City. Witnesses said a burst of gunfire riddled the SUV, prompting nearby motorists and pedestrians to flee for safety.
Despite the barrage of bullets, Mlok miraculously survived the attack, thanks to the bulletproof protection of his vehicle. Video from the scene showed the Fortuner peppered with bullet holes, underscoring the intensity of the assault.
Responding officers from the Tacurong City Police Station immediately cordoned off the area and launched a hot pursuit operation against the suspects. Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage and gathering witness accounts to identify the gunmen and determine the motive behind the ambush.
Mlok, who served as a board member of Maguindanao del Sur, has reportedly declined to issue any statement for now as authorities continue their probe.
Police have yet to establish whether the attack was politically motivated or connected to other personal or business dealings.
The failed ambush adds to the growing concern over gun attacks and political violence in parts of Mindanao, where authorities have been ramping up security operations ahead of the holiday season.
