SULTAN MASTURA, Maguindanao del Norte — After more than a year of conflict, the long-standing rido (clan feud) between the Sawal and Daru families has finally been resolved on October 27, 2025, marking a significant step toward lasting peace and unity in the province.

The historic reconciliation took place in Sitio Marhaban, Barangay Salimbao, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, witnessed by key local leaders led by Maguindanao del Norte Governor Datu Tucao O. Mastura, CPA, Alhaj, Sultan Mastura Mayor Datu Armando T. Mastura, Al-hadj, and former Governor Datu Sharifudin T. Mastura, CPA, along with various community leaders and representatives from both families.

The settlement, a product of open dialogue and mutual understanding, symbolizes a renewed commitment to peace and cooperation among the involved clans. Both families pledged to uphold respect and harmony within their communities to prevent future disputes and promote unity.

Governor Tucao Mastura emphasized that the end of local conflicts such as this rido is vital to the continued development of Maguindanao del Norte, noting that “true progress begins in a peaceful environment.” He lauded the courage and humility of both families for choosing reconciliation over division.

For his part, Mayor Armando Mastura reaffirmed the local government’s dedication to fostering peace and development, stressing that Sultan Mastura remains steadfast in its mission to build a community rooted in understanding, solidarity, and progress.

The resolution of the Sawal-Daru rido stands as a beacon of hope for other families and communities in the province still affected by similar conflicts — a testament that peace is achievable when dialogue, compassion, and leadership work hand in hand.
