KADAYANGAN, BARMM — Residents of Sitio Labo, Barangay Tugal, Kadayangan, were startled on Thursday night, October 16, 2025, after unidentified gunmen sprayed bullets at the house of a retired soldier.
The victim was identified as Solaiman S. Sumlay, 56 years old, married, and a retired member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Based on initial investigation, the attack happened past 7:00 PM while the Sumlay family was having dinner when a volley of gunfire suddenly hit their home. Several bullets struck the walls and windows of the house, as well as the parked vehicle outside. Fortunately, no one from the family was hurt as they immediately took cover.
Responding units from the 34th Infantry Battalion, Kadayangan Police, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 14 (RMFB 14) quickly arrived to secure the area and conduct pursuit operations.
Authorities are still determining the identities of the suspects and the motive behind the attack. Among the possible motives being considered are rido (clan feud) and Sumlay’s previous work as a soldier.
Security measures have been intensified in the area to prevent possible retaliatory incidents while the investigation continues.
