DAVAO CITY — A 58-year-old farmer was brutally killed by his own son in a gruesome attack inside their home at Sitio Butay, Barangay Tapak, Paquibato District, early Tuesday morning, October 29, 2025.
The victim, identified as Emilio Manlangan Manday-onan, a widower and member of the Ata tribe, was reportedly having coffee inside his house when his 30-year-old son, known by the alias “Boto”, suddenly barged in and confronted him. Without warning, the suspect allegedly struck his father in the face with a piece of wood before repeatedly hitting him with a shovel, fatally crushing the victim’s skull.
Authorities from the Paquibato Police Station responded to the scene after receiving reports from concerned residents. The victim’s body was later brought to a local funeral home for autopsy and further examination.
Initial police investigation points to personal grudge as the motive behind the brutal killing. However, additional information from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) revealed that the suspect had recently separated from his wife. Neighbors also claimed they had noticed the younger man talking to himself and exhibiting unusual behavior days before the incident.
The suspect was immediately arrested by responding officers and is now under police custody. He will be facing parricide charges, a crime punishable by reclusion perpetua under Philippine law.
Authorities have condemned the act as a tragic reminder of the growing need for mental health awareness and family conflict intervention, especially in remote communities where such issues often go unnoticed.
