DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur — The city government of Digos has launched its first major enforcement of the curfew ordinance since intensifying its campaign for peace and order, resulting in the apprehension of more than 10 minors early Monday, October 27, 2025.
At around 12:17 a.m., Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas, together with City Councilor Liza Maravillas Cagas, personally met the apprehended minors who were caught during a citywide Curfew Operation led by the Digos City Police Station under PLCOL Glenn Ipong.
According to Ipong, the minors were rounded up from various drinking establishments and streets across the city, found loitering and violating the curfew hours. They were brought to the City Gym, where the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) assisted in processing and notifying parents or guardians to claim their children.
Mayor Cagas said the operation is part of a firm directive to restore discipline and protect the youth from potential dangers during late-night hours. “This is not just about punishment—it’s about protection. We are serious about implementing the law to prevent crimes and safeguard our children’s future,” Cagas stressed.
The local government has tightened curfew enforcement amid reports of increasing juvenile-related incidents and nighttime disturbances, particularly involving minors frequenting public areas and entertainment spots.
City officials emphasized that the move aims to curb underage drinking, street altercations, and exposure to crime, especially as Digos grows as a bustling urban center in Davao del Sur. The enforcement also serves as a wake-up call to parents to be more vigilant in monitoring their children’s whereabouts.
Residents and business owners have expressed mixed reactions—some welcoming the move as timely and necessary, while others urged authorities to pair enforcement with youth engagement programs to address the root causes of delinquency.
As the city pushes forward with stricter curfew operations, Mayor Cagas reiterated that the campaign will continue without exception, reminding the public that discipline begins at home but must be reinforced by community action.
“Digos City will not tolerate lawlessness,” he said. “Our youth deserve safety, guidance, and accountability.”
