DAVAO CITY — A 37-year-old bakery saleslady was brutally killed after being robbed and bludgeoned with a hammer inside her workplace in Barangay Matina Aplaya, Davao City, early Wednesday morning, October 8, 2025.

The victim was identified as Vicmarie Licena, a resident of NHA Relocation, Bangkal, Davao City. She was found lifeless inside the comfort room of Pan de Pane Bakery around 2:30 a.m., soaked in her own blood after sustaining severe head injuries.

Police identified the suspect as Renie, 32, a native of Luganit, Malita, Davao Occidental, who had been temporarily staying at a nearby facility in the area.

According to initial reports, a bystander across the bakery heard a commotion and cries for help in the early hours of the morning. Moments later, the witness saw a man fleeing the scene, prompting residents to immediately alert authorities.

Responding officers from the Ecoland Police Station launched a hot pursuit operation and successfully arrested the suspect in Norton Village, Matina Aplaya, just minutes after the incident.

Based on the investigation conducted by the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), a hammer was recovered and believed to be the weapon used in the attack. Police said robbery was the primary motive, as cash and other valuables were reportedly missing from the bakery.

The suspect is currently detained at the Ecoland Police Station and is set to face charges of robbery with homicide.

Meanwhile, Licena’s remains were brought to the Anghel Funeral Parlor as her family and colleagues mourn her tragic death.

Authorities condemned the brutal attack and commended the swift coordination between police, barangay officials, and residents that led to the suspect’s immediate arrest.

“This case serves as a reminder that communities must remain vigilant, especially during late-night shifts,” a police spokesperson said, assuring the public that justice for the victim will be pursued without delay.
