MAKILALA, NORTH COTABATO – In a decisive military operation, the 39th Infantry “Smash’em” Battalion of the Philippine Army recovered two high-powered M16 rifles in Sitio Lacobe, Barangay Malabuan, Makilala, North Cotabato, on September 27, 2025.

The operation, led by Lieutenant Colonel Hector A. Estolas, was the result of a focused intelligence-driven mission supported by credible information from local residents. Authorities believe the firearms belonged to the dismantled Guerilla Front (DGF) “ALIP” of the Far South Mindanao Region (FSMR) and were abandoned by the group sometime in the last quarter of 2020.

According to LTC Estolas, the successful recovery highlights the effective collaboration between the Army, local communities, and peace partners in sustaining peace and stability in the area.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to our fellow citizens who helped us locate these weapons. Their cooperation prevented these firearms from being used to sow fear and violence in our communities,” Estolas said. “We urge the remaining rebels to lay down their arms, return to their families, and start a new life in peace.”

The recovered rifles were turned over to the 39th Infantry Battalion Headquarters in Barangay Poblacion, Makilala for proper documentation and disposition.

This latest success reinforces the Philippine Army’s ongoing campaign to neutralize remnants of lawless elements and ensure that peace initiatives in North Cotabato remain on track. The 39th Infantry Battalion continues to encourage those still in hiding to take advantage of the government’s reintegration and livelihood programs, providing a pathway toward a peaceful and productive future.
