In line with the national government’s directive to intensify the campaign against terrorism and violence, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported the voluntary surrender of ten (10) supporters of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) along with 32 assorted firearms, magazines, and ammunition on September 22, 2025, at around 8:15 a.m. in Sulu.

PNP Acting Chief PLTGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. described the surrender as a crucial step toward lasting peace in Mindanao. “This is proof that the whole-of-nation approach being implemented is bearing real results. We are gradually dismantling the remnants of fear and violence in the region, one peaceful surrender at a time,” he said.

PNP Spokesperson and Public Information Office Chief PBGEN Randulf T. Tuaño also highlighted the professionalism of the police force and the vital role of community cooperation. “These surrenders show that even those once involved in violence and terrorism can still return to society. This reflects the PNP’s dedication to protecting families and helping them rebuild their lives,” he added.

The surrender process was facilitated by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9 (RMFB 9) and the Sulu Police Provincial Office (PPO). The firearms and ammunition are now under the custody of RMFB 9 for proper documentation and disposition.

The PNP reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations in the region, combining security measures and community engagement to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure peace and order for all citizens.
