Police operatives in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur, arrested two suspects and seized PHP 2.7 million worth of suspected shabu during a checkpoint operation along the national highway in Barangay Mother Poblacion on Sunday, September 14.
Authorities said personnel from the Shariff Aguak Municipal Police Station flagged down a black Morris Garages vehicle with plate number MBF 9205 as part of routine inspection. When officers checked the car, they immediately saw in plain view eight large sachets containing suspected shabu.
The confiscated drugs weighed around 408 grams, with an estimated market value of PHP 2.7 million. Police promptly placed the two suspects under arrest and secured the illegal drugs for documentation and proper disposition.
The arrested individuals are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Investigators are also pursuing leads to determine the source of the illegal drugs and possible accomplices in the operation.
Police Regional Office–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) Regional Director PBGEN Jaysen C. De Guzman lauded the swift action of Shariff Aguak police and reiterated the PNP’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs in the region.
“We will continue to strengthen our anti-illegal drugs operations in PRO-BAR. We call on the public to remain vigilant and work with law enforcement to protect our communities from the dangers of illegal drugs,” De Guzman said in a statement.
The successful checkpoint operation underscores the continuing efforts of law enforcement in Maguindanao del Sur to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs and dismantle drug networks in the Bangsamoro region.
