The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has dismantled two illegal mining sites in Barangay Bahi, Maragusan, Davao de Oro, as part of its intensified campaign to protect the environment and natural resources.
The simultaneous operation, carried out in Purok Lanipga and Purok Mandaupan, was spearheaded by the NBI-Southeastern Mindanao Regional Office (NBI-SEMRO) in coordination with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region XI, with support from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Acting on reports of unlawful mining activity, authorities discovered abandoned sites with bunkers and tunnels that showed signs of recent use. The operation led to the dismantling of the illegal facilities and the confiscation of numerous sacks of copper and mineral ores, along with various mining equipment.
NBI Director Medardo de Lemos commended the field agents of NBI-SEMRO for their swift action and credited the collaboration with the MGB as vital to the seizure of the ores and machinery. He also expressed appreciation to the AFP and PNP for their support in ensuring the success of the operation.
Authorities reiterated their warning that illegal mining not only violates environmental laws but also poses serious threats to communities and ecosystems. The NBI vowed to continue its crackdown on such operations in the region.
