Impasugong, Bukidnon – Government troops uncovered a major cache of high-powered firearms belonging to the New People’s Army (NPA) during continuous operations in the hinterlands of Barangay Balagnan, San Luis, Agusan del Sur, on September 15, 2025.
The discovery was made following the revelation of Runel Saluaga Gabales, also known as Jonas, and was carried out by the 8th Infantry “Dependable” Battalion, together with the 43rd Military Intelligence Company, 4th Military Intelligence Battalion, 1st Special Forces Battalion, 26th Infantry Battalion, 88th Infantry Battalion, and the 4th Division Reconnaissance Battalion. The operations were conducted under the operational control of the 403rd “Peacemaker” Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army.
Seized from the site were one (1) Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifle, one (1) RPG launcher, two (2) AK-47 assault rifles, and one (1) RPK magazine. All firearms bore defaced serial numbers, indicating their use in illegal and terrorist activities.
Lieutenant Colonel Jeorge R. Jallorina, Acting Commanding Officer of the 8th Infantry Battalion, emphasized that the successful operation was made possible through the strong support of the local populace and the concerted efforts of all military units involved.
“This accomplishment is the result of genuine cooperation from our people combined with the dedication of our troops. The recovery of these weapons shows that the NPA can no longer secure their hideouts and operations. We urge the remaining NPA members in the mountains to surrender and choose a peaceful and stable life with their families rather than continue fighting for a lost cause,” Jallorina said.
Authorities stressed that the confiscated weapons highlight the deteriorating condition of the NPA, which has been crippled by relentless and coordinated military operations under the 403rd Brigade. The series of setbacks, officials said, proves the waning influence and desperation of the insurgent group in Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions.
Military officials assured the public that intensified joint operations will continue to neutralize remaining NPA forces and dismantle their capacity to sow terror in the countryside.
