A devastating fire broke out Friday night in Tambiling Calagundian, Barangay Central, Mati City, leaving at least 35 families homeless and forcing them to seek temporary refuge at the barangay evacuation center.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the blaze quickly spread through a cluster of homes and is still being battled by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) with the assistance of disaster volunteer groups. Firefighters continue to exert all efforts to put the flames under control and prevent further damage.
Affected residents are now under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the Public Safety Office, and barangay officials, who rushed to provide food, water, and other immediate assistance. The Brgy. Central Evacuation Center has been opened to serve as temporary shelter for the displaced families.
Authorities also urged motorists to cooperate with rerouting and traffic advisories from the City Traffic Management Office to ensure smooth firefighting and relief operations in the affected area.
Mayor Mayo Almario expressed his deep concern over the incident and called on the public to remain vigilant. “We are saddened by the loss experienced by our fellow residents. Let us always take precautions to avoid tragedies like this,” the mayor said, as he assured victims of the city’s support during their recovery.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
