Maguindanao del Sur – September 4, 2025 — Eight members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) Bungos Faction voluntarily surrendered to the Philippine Army’s 90th Infantry (Bigkis-Lahi) Battalion under the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, bringing with them their firearms.

The surrender was made possible through the joint efforts of six Local Government Units (LGUs), municipal police stations, the provincial government of Maguindanao del Sur, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The returnees were formally presented by Lt. Col. Loqui O. Marco, commanding officer of the 90IB, to Brig. Gen. Edgar L. Catu, brigade commander of the 601st Infantry (Unifier) Brigade, in a ceremony held at the 90IB headquarters in Barangay Kabengi, Datu Saudi Ampatuan.
As part of the government’s Balik-Loob Program, the former combatants received immediate financial assistance, livelihood support, and sacks of rice provided by the LGUs of Shariff Aguak, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, and Datu Hoffer. Their surrendered firearms will be turned over to higher headquarters for proper disposition.
Brig. Gen. Catu lauded the decision of the rebels to abandon armed struggle.
“The voluntary surrender of our eight brothers from the BIFF proves the effectiveness of the collective efforts of the government, local officials, police, and communities in promoting peace. I commend their courage to reject violence and embrace peace. Through the Balik-Loob Program, the government is ready to assist them in living peaceful and productive lives for their families and communities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Donald M. Gumiran, commander of the 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central (JTFC), congratulated the troops and stakeholders for the successful surrender.
“The return of these BIFF members is a clear sign that the government’s call for reconciliation is being heard and accepted. May this serve as an inspiration for those who remain in the mountains—the door of the government remains open to anyone who wishes to return to the fold of the law. Together, we will push for a peaceful and prosperous Bangsamoro,” Gumiran said.
The military emphasized that the reintegration of former rebels is crucial in sustaining peace and stability in Maguindanao del Sur and the entire BARMM region.
