COTABATO CITY — Police are now hunting down Barangay Captain Thong Gayak of Tamontaka 4 after a warrant of arrest was issued against him in connection with an illegal drugs case under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Cotabato City Mayor Bruce Matabalao confirmed the development in a press conference on Monday, September 2. He said the warrant was issued on Sunday and served by the Philippine National Police (PNP) earlier today, but Gayak was not found in his residence and reportedly managed to elude authorities.

Mayor Matabalao urged the barangay captain to surrender voluntarily and face the charges against him.

“I appeal to Kapitan Gayak to turn himself in and go through the proper legal process so that this issue can be resolved accordingly,” Matabalao said.

Authorities have yet to disclose further details of the case, but the mayor assured the public that law enforcement will continue to pursue the case in line with the city’s campaign against illegal drugs.
