ZAMBOANGA CITY — Seven fishermen were apprehended for engaging in illegal fishing activities off the coast of Barangay Bolong during a joint seaborne patrol conducted by the 1st Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company (ZCMFC) and the City Agriculturist Office.
Authorities reported that the operation led to the confiscation of 14 boxes containing various types of fish believed to have been caught through illegal means. The seized catch was taken into custody as part of the evidence.
The fishermen are now under investigation, while the appropriate charges are being prepared against them.
Local officials reminded the public that illegal fishing not only violates the law but also threatens marine biodiversity and the livelihood of small-scale, law-abiding fisherfolk.
