The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued its latest regional weather forecast for Mindanao, warning of scattered rains and thunderstorms across several provinces due to the prevailing easterlies. The advisory is valid from 5:00 AM today until 5:00 AM tomorrow, August 20.
At 3:00 PM today, Tropical Depression “Huaning” was located 535 km east-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and gusts of up to 70 km/h. While Huaning is moving slowly northward and is not directly affecting Mindanao, the easterlies continue to bring rains and thunderstorms in the southern regions. PAGASA also cautioned residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas to remain alert.
ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA
- Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City: Cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period, with coastal waters slight to moderate and temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C.
- Zamboanga del Norte: Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible rainshowers and thunderstorms overnight, turning to widespread rains and thunderstorms by tomorrow morning.
NORTHERN MINDANAO
- Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental: All provinces will experience cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms both tonight and tomorrow. Temperatures will range from 19°C in Bukidnon’s uplands to 32°C in the lowlands.
DAVAO REGION
- Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental: Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are expected through the forecast period. Temperatures will hover between 22°C and 31°C, with slight to moderate seas.
SOCCSKSARGEN
- North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani: Provinces will generally have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with localized rainshowers and thunderstorms. Temperatures range from 23°C to 31°C.
CARAGA REGION
- Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands: Consistent cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are forecast. Temperatures range from 24°C to 32°C with slight to moderate seas.
BARMM
- Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi: These areas will generally see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms. Temperatures range from 22°C in upland Lanao del Sur to 33°C in Cotabato City.
WARNING
PAGASA reminds residents across Mindanao, especially in flood- and landslide-prone areas, to remain vigilant as moderate to at times heavy rains are possible. Fisherfolk and those using small seacraft are advised to take precautionary measures against sudden thunderstorms despite the seas remaining slight to moderate.
