GSKP, MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR – A motorist was ambushed along Central Road in the municipality of General Salipada K. Pendatun on Wednesday afternoon, August 27, 2025, in yet another case of gun-related violence in the region.
Initial information from local authorities confirmed the incident, but details on the identity of the victim, the suspects, and the motive behind the attack are still being validated. The SK Pendatun Municipal Police Station and the Maguindanao del Sur Provincial Police Office are conducting follow-up investigations.
The ambush adds to the growing list of shooting incidents reported in Mindanao in recent weeks, despite the ongoing Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Gun Ban, which strictly prohibits the carrying and transport of firearms, explosives, and deadly weapons during the election period.
The ban, which aims to minimize election-related violence and ensure public safety, has so far been marred by continued reports of armed attacks, raising concerns over its effectiveness and enforcement in conflict-prone areas such as Maguindanao del Sur.
Authorities have yet to determine whether the ambush was politically motivated or connected to personal or clan-related conflicts, issues that historically fuel violence in the province.
Police assured the public that further updates will be released as investigations progress.
