POLOMOLOK, South Cotabato – A 55-year-old man was shot dead inside his home by an unidentified gunman on Friday night, August 8, 2025, in Purok 5, Barangay Koronadal Proper.
Police identified the victim as Kahar Tawan Daway, also known as “Kahar,” single, and a resident of the area. Initial investigation by the Polomolok Municipal Police Station (MPS) revealed that the victim was inside his house at around 7:40 p.m. when the suspect suddenly fired at him using a .45 caliber pistol.
Daway sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body, causing his instant death. Authorities have yet to determine the suspect’s identity but confirmed they already have several persons of interest.
According to Police Lt. Harold Cornel, chief of Polomolok MPS, one possible motive being considered is personal grudge. He added that the victim was a former prisoner who was released about two years ago, but no recent illegal activities had been linked to him prior to the shooting.
Lt. Cornel said the victim’s family had requested time to bury him before formal interviews are conducted to determine if he had received threats or had conflicts with anyone.
Police have launched a hot pursuit and checkpoint operation to track down the suspect and are continuing to gather evidence to resolve the case. Authorities assured that every effort will be made to deliver justice for the victim and appealed to the public to come forward with any information, assuring the protection of possible witnesses’ identities.
