COTABATO CITY – A family of three tragically lost their lives after a fatal vehicular crash along Sinsuat Avenue, in front of the Catholic Cemetery in Cotabato City, shortly past midnight on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
The fatalities were identified as Dwight Aviso Tiu Jr., 43, his wife Cristina Bautista Tiu, 35, and their daughter Danna Cassandra Bautista Tiu, 22, all residents of ND Village, Cotabato City.
According to the initial police investigation, the incident occurred when the driver of a white Suzuki Dzire (plate number MAU4697) attempted to overtake a red Honda XRM motorcycle ridden by the victims. Instead of passing through, the vehicle rammed into the motorcycle’s rear.
The strong impact threw the victims onto the concrete pavement, causing severe injuries. They were rushed to the hospital, but Dwight and his daughter Danna Cassandra were declared dead on arrival, while Cristina succumbed to her injuries at around 10:00 a.m. the same day.
The driver of the Suzuki Dzire allegedly attempted to flee the scene but was later arrested in a hot pursuit operation conducted by authorities in Barangays Calsada and Bulalo, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, around 3:00 a.m.
He is now under police custody and will face appropriate charges in connection with the incident.
