Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur – July 24, 2025 — The Local Government of Pagalungan has issued an urgent public advisory after a section of the flood control structure along the Davao–Cotabato Road in Barangay Layog suddenly collapsed Thursday morning.

According to the LGU, the damaged structure is now only three meters away from the edge of the national highway, posing a serious threat to public safety and regional connectivity. The highway is at imminent risk of collapse, which could endanger lives and severely disrupt transportation between key areas in Mindanao.

In response, the LGU is calling on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 12, the Ministry of Public Works–BARMM, and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) to immediately inspect the site and carry out urgent mitigation measures.

“We are sending another official request letter this afternoon — what feels like the Nth time — appealing for immediate and concrete intervention before the situation worsens,” the LGU stated in its public advisory.

Officials fear that continued erosion and structural failure could isolate communities and delay the movement of goods and services in the region.

The Pagalungan LGU is also appealing to the public to share photos and updates online to raise awareness, particularly among travelers using the Davao–Cotabato Road. Motorists are advised to stay vigilant and exercise extreme caution when passing through the affected area.

As of posting time, no formal response has been issued by the concerned government agencies.

“This is a clear and present danger. We need action — not later, not tomorrow — but now, before it’s too late,” the LGU emphasized.
