SOUTH COTABATO, Philippines (July 22, 2025) — Government troops have successfully recovered several firearms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) believed to be remnants of communist terrorist groups, following a series of intelligence-driven operations in Barangay T’Bolok, Tboli, South Cotabato.

Soldiers from the 105th Infantry (Saifullah) Battalion, under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Erikzen C. Dacoco and operating under the 603rd Infantry (Persuader) Brigade, unearthed two M16 Elisco rifles, four IEDs, and a black bandolier with four empty short steel magazines during a retrieval mission on July 20, 2025.

The successful operation was made possible through vital information provided by two former rebels, now serving as members of the CAFGU Active Auxiliaries (CAA). One of them was a former commander of a communist terrorist unit who had previously turned away from armed struggle. The two informants disclosed the location of buried weapons and explosives that had been left behind by their former comrades.

Earlier, on July 10 and 15, the same former rebels also led soldiers to the recovery of four additional IEDs in the same area, underscoring the growing cooperation between ex-rebels and the military in efforts to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in the region.

Lt. Col. Dacoco lauded his troops for their swift and disciplined response and emphasized the crucial role played by the informants. “Their courage and trust in the military greatly contributed to ensuring the safety of the communities,” he said.

Brigadier General Michael A. Santos, Commander of the 603rd Brigade, praised the 105IB for their efficient use of intelligence and professionalism. “These operations are a testament to the value of building strong relationships with former insurgents and local communities,” he said.

Major General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central, also commended the joint efforts. “This is a clear step forward in our goal of achieving lasting peace in the region. We encourage the remaining members of armed groups to return to the fold of the law and work with us toward peace and development,” he said.

All recovered items are now secured at the 105IB headquarters for documentation and proper disposition in accordance with Philippine Army protocols.

The operation reflects the military’s sustained commitment to peace-building, community engagement, and dismantling of armed threats through strengthened collaboration with local stakeholders and reintegrated former rebels.
