Isabela City, Basilan — July 2025

Amid vibrant colors, heartfelt prayers, and the rhythmic beat of cultural pride, Isabela City once again brought to life its grandest annual celebration—Fiesta Alegria de Isabela—marking the 175th Patronal Fiesta of Sta. Isabel de Portugal, its beloved patroness.

More than a religious commemoration, the week-long fiesta transformed the city into a dynamic hub of faith, unity, and local tourism, giving both residents and visitors a rich taste of Isabela’s heritage, artistry, and resilient spirit.

A Journey of Faith and Community

At the heart of this year’s celebration was the “Dia de Comunidad Cristiano”, held from July 4 to 6 along Misericordia Street. Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman and Vice Mayor Ar-Jhemar Ajibon led the opening of the event, which drew Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) from all over the city. Themed “175 Years of God’s Faithfulness through Sta. Isabel: Hope Amidst Challenges,” it served not only as a spiritual reflection but also a joyful gathering of barangay-based faith communities.

Spearheaded by the Sta. Isabel Cathedral Parish Pastoral Council with the full backing of the city government, the event emphasized how Isabeleños have turned their challenges into collective strength, drawing deeper meaning from shared devotion.

Local Produce, Local Pride

Tourists and locals alike flocked to the Kadiwa Gulay Galore, a centerpiece of the BCC Fair & Expo 2025. Organized in partnership with the City Agriculture Office, the fair showcased the best of Isabela’s agricultural bounty—fresh vegetables, fruits, and value-added products from grassroots groups like the Maligue Women Farmers Association and the Grupo sa Mag-uuma sa PAHP Baluno. The exhibit became a celebration of food sustainability and agritourism, proving that Isabela’s farms are not only fertile but full of community-driven innovation.

Music, Talent, and Cultural Sparkle

From humble voices to show-stopping performances, the festival highlighted the city’s wellspring of talent. “La Voz de Isabela” echoed through Plaza Rizal on July 5, as aspiring local singers captured hearts and the city’s cultural rhythm. Spearheaded by the City Tourism Office and Barangay Seaside under Punong Barangay Fitzgerald Tan, the singing contest was more than entertainment—it was an ode to the musical soul of the Isabeleño people.

Adding to the cultural fanfare was “Isabela Got Talent”, a vibrant celebration of local artistry where young performers dazzled audiences with dance, music, and theatrical acts. Supported by barangays Isabela Proper and Seaside, and led by Mayor Turabin-Hataman, the show underscored the city’s inclusive spirit—welcoming talents from all walks of life and affirming Isabela as a breeding ground for future artists.

A Regatta to Remember: The Sakayan Legacy

The Fiesta Regatta 2025: The Sakayan Boat Race made waves along the Malamawi Channel on July 6. This highly anticipated spectacle spotlighted the sakayan—a traditional outrigger canoe—as a symbol of Isabela City’s enduring maritime culture. Four race categories thrilled onlookers, with paddlers competing in Lumbah-Lumbah, Puppet/Tiririt, and Bangka Anak-Anak divisions.

The regatta also paid homage to the community’s seafaring legacy, while boosting eco-tourism and celebrating coastal life. Support from the Philippine Coast Guard Station-Isabela, Special Forces, and various city departments ensured the event’s safety and success. The city’s waters became a festive arena of tradition and sportsmanship.

Joy for Every Generation

Celebrating life and health, the City Nutrition Office treated young beneficiaries of the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program to a day of laughter and learning through “NutriSkwela: Juego y Alegria.” Held at Kiddielandia and capped with a Jollibee lunch treat, the activity brought joy not just to children from barangays Begang, Baluno, and Tabiawan—but also to families who saw that celebrations can nurture both spirit and body.

A Living Heritage, A Tourist Invitation

Fiesta Alegria de Isabela is more than a citywide festivity—it is a living narrative of faith, history, and identity. As declared by Republic Act 12220, authored by former Lone District Representative Mujiv Hataman, July 8 has been set as a Special Working Holiday in honor of Sta. Isabel de Portugal, further rooting the fiesta into Isabela’s civic and cultural calendar.

With vibrant parades, community fairs, heritage performances, and food exhibitions, the 2025 celebration invites tourists to experience the soul of Isabela—an evolving city that cherishes its past while embracing the future.

For travelers seeking a destination rich in tradition, color, and community warmth, Isabela City stands proud and ready to welcome the world. The next time July comes around, make your way south—Fiesta Alegria awaits.
