Tagum City, Davao del Norte – June 13, 2025 — A barangay councilor was killed in an ambush in Barangay Magugpo North early Friday morning.
Initial reports from the Tagum City Police Office identified the victim as 43-year-old Jorge Josol, Jr., a sitting barangay kagawad (councilor) of Magugpo North. According to police, Josol was driving his pickup truck when armed men lying in wait opened fire on him in Purok Pine Tree, not far from his residence.
Witnesses and neighbors said that despite sustaining gunshot wounds, Josol managed to step out of his vehicle. However, he reportedly fell into a deep canal by the roadside and died shortly after.
Police investigators and local officials in Tagum City are now working together to identify the perpetrators, who quickly fled the scene after the attack.
Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the ambush as investigations continue.
