ALABEL, Sarangani (May 2, 2025) — Music, youth advocacy, and marine conservation took center stage as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12, through the Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS), hosted “Ocean Jam: Echoes of the Deep” at the Marine Wildlife Rescue Center in Ladol, Alabel.

The event brought together young environmental advocates, local artists, and community organizations in a creative and meaningful celebration aimed at protecting Sarangani Bay. Through music and shared dialogue, the gathering highlighted the vital role of the youth in safeguarding marine ecosystems.

Local artist Hinulsoul captivated the crowd with soulful performances that echoed the beauty and fragility of the ocean. Between musical acts, keynote speakers shared environmental insights, linking each performance to pressing conservation issues and sparking deeper reflection among participants.

A standout moment of the event was the open mic segment, which evolved into a spontaneous jam session. Youth participants used the platform to voice their personal pledges for marine protection, turning heartfelt lyrics and melodies into powerful messages of advocacy.

The Ocean Jam was held in partnership with various youth and environmental groups including the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of Alabel, Marine Biology Students’ Society, Sustainability Advocates for Climate Change Action (SACCA) – Alabel, Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) of Alabel National High School, and Youth Seacampers Batch 2024.

More than just an artistic gathering, “Ocean Jam” served as a community-driven call to action. It underscored the importance of youth engagement and creative expression in environmental protection, reaffirming a collective mission to conserve the biodiversity and beauty of Sarangani Bay for future generations.
