Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan – April 30, 2025 | In a major step toward ensuring public safety, personnel from the 45th Infantry (Gallant) Battalion, in coordination with the 3rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Company and the 10th K9 Company, successfully located and disposed of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Barangay Bohe Pahu, Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan.

The operation followed the discovery of several explosive items during a routine patrol conducted by the troops within the battalion’s operational area. Upon locating the dangerous materials, the site was immediately secured to prevent any risk to nearby residents, and specialized units were alerted to assess and handle the situation.

With assistance from the 39th EOD and K9 team and in coordination with the local government, the unexploded munitions — including several mortar rounds — were transported to a designated disposal ground. There, a controlled detonation was conducted, ensuring the safe destruction of the explosives.

Officials say the joint operation underscores the importance of strong collaboration between the military and local authorities in protecting communities from hidden threats. The presence of such dangerous items posed a serious risk, but through quick action and professional coordination, potential tragedy was averted.

“This kind of operation is vital for maintaining peace and safety in conflict-affected areas,” said one military official. “Our priority is always the well-being of the communities we serve.”

Residents of Bohe Pahu and nearby areas expressed relief and gratitude for the successful operation, which not only removed a deadly hazard but also reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to protect local populations.

The military continues to urge the public to report any suspicious objects or activities, as vigilance remains a key factor in maintaining community safety.
