Caraga, Davao Oriental – Five workers were killed while five others were injured when a dump truck fell off a cliff around 8:00 AM on May 28, 2025, in Purok Panlaisan, Barangay Pichon, Caraga, Davao Oriental.

According to local resident Precy Mae Pawin Lagirong, all victims were workers involved in the ongoing road construction in the area. Reports indicate that the dump truck lost its brakes, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle plunged approximately 80 meters down a ravine and struck a large rock at the bottom, resulting in the deaths of five workers on the spot and injuries to five others.

The dump truck, owned by Legacy Construction Company, was transporting workers to a project site for a road opening from Sitio Panlaisan to Sitio Butay, both in Barangay Pichon.

Responding immediately, residents assisted in the rescue operation and comforted the injured victims. The Regional Police Security Battalion (RPSB) Caraga, led by PCMS Clyde Piamonte, initiated the rescue and retrieval operations, supported by personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Caraga Municipal Police Station (MPS).

The five injured workers were brought to the Caraga Municipal Health Office for treatment. All ten victims are reportedly residents of Davao City.

  2. Brent Marvin Clarion – 22 years old, from Mandug, Davao City
  3. Brendon Clarion – 27 years old, from Mandug, Davao City
  4. Mario Abendan – 55 years old, from Mandug, Davao City
  5. Reformado Claros – 53 years old, driver

Authorities are currently conducting further investigation into the incident. Our sincerest condolences go out to the families of the deceased.
