CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao del Norte – Troops of the 6th Infantry (Redskin) Battalion successfully intercepted various firearms and explosives, preventing an armed confrontation between two rival groups in Barangay Ganta, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao del Sur, on March 29, 2025.
According to Lt. Col. Al Victor C. Burkley, Commanding Officer of the 6IB, residents reported an encounter between the armed groups led by Badrudin Dagandal and Bendao. Acting on the information, government forces immediately responded at around 6:00 AM, prompting the armed individuals to flee upon seeing the soldiers.
During the clearing operation, troops recovered two converted .30 caliber Garand rifles modified into M14 rifles, a grenade, and three bandoliers. The confiscated weapons are now under the custody of the 6IB for documentation and further investigation.
Following the incident, Brigadier General Edgar L. Catu, Commander of the 601st Brigade, placed military units in the area on high alert to track down the fleeing armed groups. “I want to put an end to these clashes, which is why we continue to hold dialogues with our fellow citizens to encourage the surrender of loose firearms and prevent further violence,” Brig. Gen. Catu stated.
Meanwhile, Major General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force-Central, commended the civilians for their quick reporting of armed activities. “Displaying and carrying firearms is a clear violation of the gun ban imposed under Comelec Resolution No. 11067 during the election period. Your swift response is key to preventing any malicious plans by these armed groups.”
Maj. Gen. Gumiran also emphasized that the military will not hesitate to use force if such conflicts persist, especially when innocent civilians are affected. He called on all armed groups to cease hostilities and cooperate with the government for a more stable and peaceful region.
