Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao del Sur — April 6, 2025 — Government forces swiftly responded to a pre-dawn harassment incident by the Dawla Islamiya terror group against a Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) community in Sitio Proper, Barangay Mantao.

At exactly 5:00 a.m., the 90th Infantry Battalion (90IB) under the command of Lt. Col. Logui O. Marco mobilized troops following a report from the MILF community. Members of the MILF-Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF), particularly from the 118th Base Command, had already engaged the armed group in a firefight when government forces arrived.

Upon reaching the area, the 90IB conducted a clearing operation that forced the armed group to withdraw. During the operation, the troops discovered the body of a suspected Dawla Islamiya member, along with one M14 rifle, one Barrett sniper rifle, a bandolier, and assorted ammunition.

Brigadier General Edgar L. Catu, Commander of the 601st Infantry Brigade, commended the troops for their prompt and decisive action in defending the MILF community.

“Let us join together in sustaining peace and not give space for the peace spoilers to continue their violent activities to sabotage the peace and socio-economic development in this area,” Brig. Gen. Catu said.

Major General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central, also lauded the efforts of the 601st Brigade and 90IB.

“Our accomplishment doesn’t count by the number of killed and firearms recovered, but by the number of lives we have saved and protected,” said Maj. Gen. Gumiran. He also urged the remaining members of terrorist groups to surrender and take advantage of existing government programs that offer assistance and legal protection.

Authorities continue to monitor the area and ensure the safety of communities vulnerable to terrorist threats.
