Highlights importance of local economic enterprises in driving inclusive development.

Davao City’s local economic enterprises continue to show strong performance as the City Economic Enterprises (CEE) reported a consistent increase in revenue collections from 2022 to 2024, underscoring their crucial role in supporting the city’s economic growth.

According to data from the CEE, the agency collected ₱177.7 million in 2022, which rose to ₱200.5 million in 2023. By 2024, revenue reached ₱211.5 million — a 5.48 percent increase from the previous year and surpassing the annual revenue target set by the city.

CEE Manager Maximo Macalipes Jr. attributed this steady rise to the performance of various city-run operations, particularly the public markets, which emerged as the top revenue contributor, followed by the city’s slaughterhouse services.

“These gains not only reflect improved operations and service delivery but also show how local economic enterprises can significantly support the city’s overall development,” Macalipes said.

The City Economic Enterprises is mandated to operate revenue-generating services in food, transportation, and deathcare, which directly contribute to the local income collected by the City Treasurer’s Office. These include the management of public markets, slaughterhouses, cemeteries, and other essential public utilities.

Local economic enterprises like the CEE serve as vital instruments in ensuring that basic services are delivered efficiently while generating funds that reduce dependence on external or national government allocations. These enterprises create jobs, stimulate local commerce, and channel revenues back into community services and infrastructure.

Macalipes emphasized that the CEE will continue to pursue viable and inclusive economic activities that contribute to Davao City’s vision of sustainable growth. “We remain committed to our mission of fostering diverse enterprises that will continue to uplift the local economy,” he said.

With the city’s economic enterprises gaining momentum, Davao is setting a strong example of how local governance and community-oriented services can work together to achieve long-term prosperity.
