The local government of Tagum has issued an update regarding the swarm attack involving native honey bees that occurred yesterday at the Energy Park, specifically near the “I LOVE TAGUM” signage.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) responded quickly to the situation, ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected. The City Agriculture Office (CAGRO) also deployed trained beekeepers to carry out fogging operations to control the swarming bees.

As of the latest report, 43 individuals were affected by the incident and were promptly brought to the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) for treatment. Yesterday, 39 of the patients were declared stable and discharged. As of 1:00 PM today, April 10, four individuals remain under medical care and are recovering. Personnel from the City Mayor’s Office have also been deployed to ensure that the affected individuals and their families are properly supported and their immediate needs are addressed.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the incident.

The City Government of Tagum assures the public that the safety of public spaces remains a top priority, especially for the youth. As part of its ongoing efforts to maintain safety, regular fogging activities will be conducted to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

In light of this, the public is reminded to report any sightings of beehives or other animals to the designated LGU personnel. It is advised not to approach these creatures, especially without expert guidance.

The Energy Park remains open to the public during its regular operating hours.
