DATU SALIBO, Maguindanao del Sur (April 22, 2025) — In a bid to strengthen public safety and promote responsible gun ownership, Barangay Chairman Abdulnasser A. Sandigan of Barangay Butilen facilitated the voluntary surrender of a .38 caliber revolver with no serial number, marking another milestone in the ongoing campaign against loose firearms.

The firearm was surrendered by a concerned resident during a routine barangay visit by Hon. Sandigan at around 4:00 PM. For security reasons, the identity of the individual who turned over the weapon has been withheld. The gesture, however, underscores the community’s growing resolve to support peace and order by addressing the proliferation of unlicensed firearms.

Chairman Sandigan promptly turned over the firearm to the Datu Salibo Municipal Police Station (MPS) for proper documentation and further processing. The weapon is now in the custody of the MPS and is set to be forwarded to the Regional Forensic Unit for examination and appropriate disposition.

In a statement, PCOL Ryan Bobby C. Paloma, Acting Provincial Director of the Maguindanao del Sur Police Provincial Office (MDSPPO), lauded both the local police and barangay officials for their continued efforts to curb the circulation of illegal firearms.

“This voluntary surrender reflects the strong cooperation between the police and the community in ensuring a safer environment for all,” Paloma said.

Authorities continue to encourage citizens to report or voluntarily surrender illegal firearms, as part of the government’s broader strategy to uphold peace and order across the province.
