Zamboanga del Norte – March 26, 2025 – Governor Rosalina “Nanay Nene” Jalosjos has strongly condemned the killing of Punong Barangay Leopoldo “Dodoy” P. Atad, President of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte.

A barangay captain in Macleodes, Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte was shot and killed by an unidentified gunman. Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
In an official statement, Jalosjos denounced the act of violence, describing it as a “heinous crime” that undermines democracy, threatens the rule of law, and instills fear in communities. She emphasized the importance of protecting local officials and public servants who work to ensure the safety and well-being of the people.
“The safety of our local officials and public servants is paramount, and we will not tolerate any attack against those who serve our communities,” Jalosjos stated.
Expressing her deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the governor assured them of her support in seeking justice for Atad. She called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice and to take all necessary measures to prevent further violence.
Jalosjos also highlighted the need to uphold peace and order, particularly in the context of the upcoming elections. She stressed that electoral processes should be free from violence and intimidation, urging political leaders, stakeholders, and citizens to reject violent means and ensure a peaceful and democratic process.
“Elections are the foundation of a democratic society, built upon the pillars of peace, fairness, and the free will of the people. Any attempt to subvert this process through violence is an affront to the values we uphold as a nation,” she added.
The governor reaffirmed her commitment to a just, free, and democratic society where disputes are resolved through dialogue and due process rather than violence.
Authorities have yet to release further details on the investigation into Atad’s killing, but officials and community leaders are calling for unity in the pursuit of justice and peace in the province.
