BALUT ISLAND, SARANGANI, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI, through the Risk Resilience Program – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Disaster Risk Reduction (RRP-CCAM-DRR) under its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), has successfully introduced Project LAWA at BINHI to Balut Island.
The initiative was launched with a coordination meeting held from February 17-21, 2025, in collaboration with the Municipal Technical Working Group (MTWG). The meeting served as a platform for discussing the proper implementation of the project, allowing stakeholders to clarify their roles and responsibilities while formulating agreements to ensure smooth execution.
In addition to the coordination meeting, a site validation was conducted to assess areas suitable for community-based programs and agricultural projects. This step ensures that the interventions align with the needs of local communities and the island’s ecological landscape.
Leading the activity were Karen C. Gayonan, RPMO Focal; Andrea Batuhan, Capbuild and Partnership Focal; and Jo Ann Labio, Provincial Focal for DSWD XI, alongside MTWG members of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
