Indanan, Sulu – March 7, 2025 – Authorities confiscated smuggled cigarettes worth Php2.87 million in an operation conducted by the Sulu Maritime Police Station (MARPSTA) in collaboration with the Bureau of Customs at Sitio Subah Datu, Barangay Buansa, Indanan, Sulu.


According to reports, an individual known as “Jamal” was expected to unload contraband at around 9:00 p.m. in the area. Acting on this intelligence, Sulu MARPSTA officers swiftly responded using a maritime vessel.
Upon arrival, the operatives discovered that the individuals responsible for the cargo had already fled. A witness stated that the suspects quickly escaped upon noticing the approaching boat and vehicle of the authorities. The operation resulted in the seizure of 50 master cases (25,000 packs) of smuggled cigarettes, amounting to Php2,875,000.00.
The confiscated items were brought to Sulu MARPSTA for proper documentation and inventory. Authorities are conducting further investigations to identify and apprehend those involved in the smuggling operation. Legal charges will be filed against the perpetrators as soon as they are identified.
The successful seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in curbing smuggling activities in the region.
