Maramag, Bukidnon—In a significant milestone for peace and security, the Municipality of Maramag has been officially declared an insurgency-free municipality. The declaration ceremony took place at the Municipal Gymnasium of Maramag, Bukidnon, with the theme: “Maramag: Malinawon nga Lungsod nga Puno sa Gugma ug Panaghiusa” (A Peaceful Town Filled with Love and Unity).
The event was attended by key government and security officials, underscoring the importance of this achievement. Police Brigadier General Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 10, was represented by Police Colonel Martin Gamba, Deputy Regional Director for Operations. Also present was Police Colonel Jovit Lontac Culaway, Provincial Director of the Bukidnon Police Provincial Office.
Major General Allan D. Hambala, Commander of the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division, served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the ceremony. The declaration was formalized through Municipal Peace and Order Council Resolution No. 2024-014 and Sangguniang Bayan Resolution No. 2025-710, solidifying Maramag’s status as a municipality generally unaffected by communist insurgency.
Maramag’s recognition as insurgency-free is the result of sustained peace efforts and strong collaboration among various stakeholders, including the Local Government Unit of Maramag, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and other peace and development partners. The collective commitment of these organizations has significantly strengthened internal security mechanisms and promoted sustainable peace in the region.
Among the distinguished attendees were Hon. Atty. Jose Joel P. Doromal, Maramag Municipal Mayor; Hon. Atty. Maribeth Estrella-Lopez, Municipal Vice Mayor; Ms. Rhona Pedraza Abadilla, DILG Provincial Director; Ms. Elena B. Rabaya, MLGOO Maramag; and other members of the Sangguniang Bayan.
The success of this initiative highlights the importance of inclusive and collaborative approaches in addressing security challenges. With the declaration of Maramag as insurgency-free, the municipality is poised to further its development efforts, ensuring a peaceful and progressive future for its residents.
