CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao del Norte – The number of surrendered loose firearms continues to rise as nine more weapons were turned over to the military in Pandag, Maguindanao del Sur.
According to Lt. Col. Felmax Lodriguito Jr., Commander of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion, the surrender of these firearms is the result of intensified efforts in the campaign against loose firearms.
In a turnover ceremony on March 26, 2025, the weapons were handed over to Col. Ronel R. Manalo, Acting Commander of the 1st Mechanized Brigade. The event was led by Honorable Mohajeran Balayman, Mayor of Pandag, along with seven barangay captains of the municipality.
The surrendered firearms included one M203 tube, one Cal .50 Barrett, one M79 grenade launcher, four 12-gauge shotguns, one Caliber .38, and one Caliber .357. Additionally, three 40mm HE grenades, magazines, and various types of ammunition were also turned over.
Major General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division (6ID) and Joint Task Force Central (JTFC), emphasized that the surrender of loose firearms is a crucial step towards achieving a more peaceful community.
“Our continued cooperation with local government units and residents is key to ensuring security in our region. We deeply appreciate the full support of the LGU of Pandag in this campaign. Their initiative proves that the unity between the military and local government can only be achieved through strong collaboration and dedication to the welfare of the people,” said Maj. Gen. Gumiran.
The military continues to urge the public to work closely with authorities to eliminate illegal firearms and sustain peace and order in the region.
