A historic milestone in conflict resolution was achieved as the decades-long feud, or “Rido,” between the clans of Mr. Pakal Angad and Mr. Otete Ambor was peacefully settled in a solemn ceremony. This reconciliation brought an end to a 67-year dispute that had disrupted peace and unity in the community.
The settlement was made possible through the concerted efforts of multiple stakeholders, including local leaders, security forces, and representatives from the International Monitoring Team. Key figures who played pivotal roles in the mediation included Mr. Arab Sahraman, a National Protection Officer; Hon. Alao Ampuan, Vice Mayor of Marogong, Lanao del Sur; Hon. Ombawa Alingan, Vice Mayor of Pantar, Lanao del Norte; Hon. Abu Darda, Board Member from Tubaran, Lanao del Sur; and Hadji Abdul Karim. Commander/Sultan Londay “Topsider” Macabuntal was instrumental in leading the negotiations, fostering dialogue, and ensuring the peaceful resolution.
The Philippine Army, represented by Task Unit Tabang (TU-Tabang) under the leadership of 1LT Nica D. Aaron, Commanding Officer, provided vital security assistance during the event. Additional support came from the 44th Infantry Battalion led by 2LT Ken Joshua T. Marcelo, Platoon Leader of Charlie Company. Their presence ensured a secure environment for the dialogue and ceremony to take place.
1LT Aaron, who served as a witness during the settlement, commended both clans for their willingness to reconcile and embrace peace. “This event signifies a new beginning for the families involved and for the community at large. Their decision to set aside past grievances is a testament to the strength of unity and mutual understanding,” she remarked.
The settlement ceremony was held at Sitio Kawit, a significant venue symbolizing hope and reconciliation. Traditional and religious leaders also played a crucial role, emphasizing the importance of cultural and spiritual guidance in the process. The involvement of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army highlighted the synergy between local governance, security forces, and community leaders in fostering peace.
The peaceful resolution of this Rido not only restores harmony between the families of Mr. Angad and Mr. Ambor but also sets a precedent for resolving conflicts in other communities. It underscores the power of dialogue, cooperation, and the unwavering commitment of all parties to achieve lasting peace in Lanao del Norte.
As the ceremony concluded, both clans expressed gratitude for the efforts of all mediators and stakeholders involved. This event stands as a beacon of hope, inspiring other communities plagued by similar conflicts to seek peaceful resolutions.
