New Corella, Davao del Norte – In a major operation against illegal mining, authorities apprehended three Chinese nationals and a Filipino backhoe operator on January 22, 2025, in Purok 2, Barangay Mambing, New Corella.
The suspects were arrested for engaging in unauthorized mining activities without the necessary permits or legal documentation. Confiscated during the operation were several heavy pieces of equipment used in the illicit operation, including three backhoe units, four water pumps, and two fabricated screeners.
The arrested individuals are currently detained at the New Corella Municipal Police Station, while the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region XI and the Philippine National Police (PNP) prepare to file charges against them.

The successful operation was a joint effort involving:
- Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) under the New Corella Municipal Police Station
- Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region XI
- Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO-Davao del Norte)
- Department of Environment and Natural Resources/City Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR/CENRO)
- National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP)
The operation underscores the authorities’ firm commitment to enforcing environmental laws and preserving the country’s natural resources.
PRO 11’s Stand Against Illegal Mining
PGEN Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, Chief of the PNP, has been vocal in his directive to intensify operations against illegal mining activities. The recent crackdown demonstrates PRO 11’s determination to align with this directive and safeguard the environment.
“This operation is a clear message that illegal mining activities will not be tolerated. We are resolute in our mission to protect the environment and uphold the law,” authorities stated.
