Cotabato City—The number of confirmed HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) cases in Cotabato City has risen to 83, according to the City Health Office (CHO). Dr. Harris R. Ali, Chief Officer of the CHO, disclosed that this year has seen a notable increase in infections, with several suspected cases currently under observation at the Cotabato Regional Medical Center (CRMC).

Dr. Ali highlighted that the majority of those testing positive are individuals aged 20 and above, with many belonging to the same-sex relationship demographic. Despite the rising numbers, participation in free HIV testing and check-ups remains low, as fear of the test results discourages many from seeking medical attention.

To address the growing concern, the CHO is encouraging residents to take advantage of the free and confidential HIV testing services offered at their office. The Social Hygiene Clinic at the Cotabato City Health Office, located on Sta. Maria Street in MBRH, Cotabato City, is open to anyone wishing to undergo testing. For inquiries, individuals may contact the HIV/AIDS Program through:

The City Health Office assures the public that all patient information is handled with the utmost confidentiality and respect.

Minister Dr. Jojo Sinolinding Jr. of the Ministry of Health in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH BARMM) has also stressed the importance of getting tested for HIV. He emphasized that early detection is crucial in managing the disease effectively.

The CHO’s appeal comes as part of a broader effort to combat the stigma surrounding HIV testing and to encourage Cotabateños to prioritize their health and well-being.
